Among the hit national crowd pullers such as Karbonn, Lava or Micromax lies the new MVL with its first ever handset – G81 popularly known for housing Push Email functions, dual SIM capacity, QWERTY keyboard and a hopelessly low-cost Placed inside a broad candy-bar sort, MVL G81 is a fully feature - packed QWERTY phone which gives the look of a highly held expensive smartphone due to its metallic rim on the edges and a gloss in the rear panel. Light to carry and sturdy to hold, this handset is a good bet for young and reckless lots. Keys are decently curved but soft to type and make way for an optical trackpad on the top which is handy while navigating through the screen displayed on the menu screen.
Rest is the plain function buttons design with two navigation keys, calling key, call ending key and a dedicated key for email application. However, the camera key is a bit oddly placed in the left side atop. Plus, there is room for data transfer with a USB port and a microSD card slot but the 3.5mm headphone jack is amiss.
For the music lovers, there exixt a good set of grilled speakers with a camera sensor in the centre which helps you take pretty clear images. But the biggest catch is its QVGA looking 2.4 inch wide display screen with 320 x 240 pixel resolution so it aptly brightens the content you view.
User Interface is very basic, and in other terms pretty boring if you have been used to Androids or Symbians. But Java apps compensate for that boredom with three pre-installed web accessing options namely Opera Mini, Snaptu and Nimbuzz. Also, MVL G81 has the capacity to hold up to 2000 contact names and about a thousand above SMS which is quite useful.
Picture quality is not that bad under the 3.2 megapixel sensor built camera and videos can be recorded as well, though a little disappointingly. The set of ear-phones packed along with the handset offer considerable audio and enough if you just have FM news to listen to.
With an average battery life and dual SIM capacity, the new MVL G81 is big on Java apps but low on general purpose phones. Yet, you can give it a shot for it is available in Indian retail stores at a street price of Rs. 5,500 |
