Google vs Microsoft: The game becomes filthier
Google is enjoying its dominance in the search arena, which is challenged by Microsoft Corp, the software giant, which had updated its search engine with a new Decision Engine, called Bing in June last year. While, Microsoft leads in operating system, enterprise applications and web browsers market, Google holds the lead in search arena.

Meanwhile, the search giant is gearing up in various fields like operating system, web based apps and web browser, to compete with the software giant. But, besides healthy competition, the two biggies are also trying other ways out to beat each other in various fields.

The feature here discusses about the various new developments between the two giants.

Google blames Microsoft for antitrust probe

Recently, Google has accused Microsoft for initiating the European Commission's antitrust probe into its activities. It is reported that if correct, it will be the latest move from the software giant to bring down Google from the top position by seeking antitrust investigation into Google activities.

In February, the EC had launched an antitrust investigation against Google based on complaints from three firms, of which two are connected with Microsoft. It is assumed that the Redmond giant is eyeing the 60% search share of Google and also joined hands with Yahoo, the number two search giant to counter the monopoly of Google.

Google - China Development

Recently, Google has indicated that it will stop following the Chinese Internet censorship and also planning to shut down its operations in the country altogether. But, analysts suggest that if the search giant closes its operations in China, it might open a door for Microsoft.

Besides Baidu, the software giant's Bing search engine is among the possible beneficiaries if Google goes ahead with its threat to shut down its Google.cn site. Further, it seems that the company has also formulated a detailed plan for closing its Chinese search engine. It is reported that Microsoft has hired people from Google's China business to en-cash the development.

Various analysts suggest that Microsoft, Yahoo and other biggies should support Google. But in contrast, they intend to remain in China and will continue to comply with local regulations.

Microsoft-Yahoo deal to counter Google Search

Last year, Microsoft and Yahoo! had announced a 10-year deal in which the Yahoo! search engine would be replaced by Bing. But, for the first five years, Yahoo! will keep 88% of the revenue from all search ad sales. The deal between the second and third search engines will certainly provide a reason for worry to Google.

Further, Microsoft has also introduced many features that will help users to access Bing on the move and get their answers quickly. Recently, Mozilla has announced that the Firefox users should search via Microsoft's Bing after Google's CEO downplayed consumers' privacy concerns. Motorola also joined hands with Microsoft to offer Bing platform in China on their Android based handsets due to possibility of Google’s China exit.
