Intel started sale of its first series of Nehalem processors, Core i7 chips pitching them as the fastest chips for desktops. The chip is highly embraced by the PC makers and has brought in desktops to incorporate the latest technologies. Among the companies, who have announced the products based on Core i7 chips are Gateway, Dell and Falcon Northwest. They are offering hardware such as graphic cards and Intel’s new 80G-byte solid-state drive, in PCs to take advantage of Core i7. The PCs supporting 64-bit Windows operating system, are geared toward users, such as gamers, who want cutting-edge desktops are also loaded with Core i7 chips. The underlying architecture of Core i7 chips includes faster hyperthreading for quicker applications performance. Nehalem chips will later be scaled down for less-expensive consumer desktops and laptops in 2009.
Embracing the new chip, Gateway has announced two FX gaming desktops, FX6800-05 priced at $2,999.99 and FX6800-01 priced for $1,249.99. Similarly, Dell has announced the Studio XPS, for technology enthusiasts at $949. Even Alienware, owned by Dell has announced its systems based on the Nehalem architecture.
Falcon Northwest has supported Core i7 chips in Mach V customizable gaming systems, with a minimum configuration starting at $2,495.
