Couple of months back, Mozilla has set a 2009 deadline for the launch of a major release of its web browser but the recent updates indicate a push back in the dates for the launch of an overhauled version.
The open source browser making community has skipped its self imposed deadline for releasing Firefox 3.6 and will take some more time to bring the major update, version 4.0.
Now Firefox 3.6 is scheduled for Q1 of 2010 and Firefox 4.0 is aimed at the latter half of 2010 and a beta for the same is due in the summer of 2010, according to insiders.
The browser front has become more competitive with Google’s Chrome; however Firefox is gaining traction. Apple is doing its bit to ramp up Safari and Opera is also trying to increase the speed and performance.
Lots of innovations and new features are expected to get shipped with the overhauled versions of Firefox along with the capabilities to customize the browser’s appearance. The organization is working towards to speed up the browser’s launch time, improve security, and make some other performance changes to improve the web surfing experience of users.
