Intel’s latest microprocessor Atom which targets netbook s or mini laptops is reported as a cost hogging processor.
As per reports, Atom costs 52% more per chip than the desktop version of the same processor.
The Atom N270 which is mini-laptop version of the microprocessor, costs US$44 as compared against $29 for the Atom 230 which is the desktop, or nettop version of the chip.
The price variation has been revealed in the latest price list issued by Intel. Atom is the mini processor targeting a number of low cost devices like Asus Eee PC and others.
The difference between the laptop Atom processor N270 and the desktop version, Atom 230, is heat.
But the chip is a strong contender in the market and possesses strong demands. As per reports, Atom has been a strong seller that the company has had to revise up its production estimates every 40 days. The chips are also in huge demand among embedded devices and consumer electronics.
The product which is giving tougher competition to Atom is the Via’s C7 processors and Isaiah processor launched lately.
