PC shipments could be adversely affected due to conflicts and disasters in Japan and Middle East, sources reported.


But, that will only be if Japan, which is a major supplier of batteries and other PC components halts production of these for a long span of time resulting into shortages. Japan intermittently was not able to manufacture these components due to the vast affects of the disaster, but a lot of Japanese firms have resumed operations giving some assurance that the shortage ,if there, will not be drastic, reportedly.


But another factor could lead to rise in the price of PCs like the increasing oil prices in the Middle East which could lead to more expenditure on production therefore price of desktops.


The PC shipments around the world have already been falling where in Q1 of 2011; a decline of 3.2 percent was seen compared to the Q1 of 2011. But the decline if because of Japan quake cannot be determined.


Major PC manufacturers saw a slowdown in PC demand and also lost market share like HP experienced a 2.8% year by year down, Dell’s shipment unit of PCs fell 1.8% and Acer saw shipments fall by 15.8%.
