Sony Ericsson, the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile phones, and wireless networks is facing a tough time.
The company has posted steep fall in the income for second quarter. The picture is yet dark for the employees who will have to loose their jobs. With the company posting so heavy losses, the reports have that company is cutting 2,000 jobs.
The company has registered steep slides in the revenue earnings compared to same period in 2007, despite shipping almost as many phones.
As per reports the company managed to ship 24.9 million handsets during the period, bringing in a total of $3.1bn. This year the figure dropped to 24.4 million. To balance the losses the company has announced to cut off costs thus resulting in reducing the staff by as much as 2000.
The average selling price of the Sony Ericsson mobile phone has even reduced thus reflecting the tighter margins.
The company is not working on any expansion plans into the lower end of the market and priority is to restore the profits, presuming the cuts can be realized with no loss of quality or quantity.
