Sony Corp, Japan based electronic giant has announced that it has made available over one million public domain books on its e-readers through Google Inc's Books project, which are not protected by copyright. According to sources, the new books are available in the EPUB format and will work with the PRS-505 or the PRS-700. The company said that the addition will make the Sony e-reader as the most comprehensive array of electronic books available in the market. Besides Sony, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble Inc and others are also racing to increase their offerings. E-readers are now quite successful and their demands are surging, they are tablet-like devices with 5-6” screen size, where whole books can be stored and read. Earlier, U.S. bookseller Barnes & Noble had announced the world's largest online bookstore, with more than 700,000 titles, from which more than half a million public domain books are provided by Google. At present, Amazon's Kindle store offers over 300,000 titles.
