RIM’s new entrant to Smartphone segment, BlackBerry Storm was announced on Verizon Wireless few weeks back. Reportedly, Verizon wireless will start selling the new BlackBerry by this week starting November 21. The new BlackBerry mobile phone is priced for $249. Wireless customers willing to sign a two year contract with the carrier will be offered an additional $50 rebate on the phone.
RIM’s BlackBerry Storm 9730 is supported with Verizon’s EvDO. It has also support for GSM networks, GPS and Click-Through technology.
Pitching it as iPhone competitor, BlackBerry Storm is seen as a challenger to Apple Inc’s iPhone. The Apple phone has outsold the entire BlackBerry mobile line of devices in the third quarter.
Storm features mobile broadband access, ability to download music, Web browsing and includes 9 GB of data storage. It also comes pre-loaded with applications such as Facebook and Flickr.
With Storm, RIM has also responded to touchscreen feature. Verizon Wireless customers who sign a two-year contract will be offered new device at $199 after the rebate.
