Amid economic crunch, the good news has arrived from the US video game market. The market statistics indicate that US game market has grew by 18% in the last month.
Despite of cut backs by consumers, the market seems to be on healthy track and sales of game consoles and portables were up 5 percent compared to October 2007, at US$495 million, while software sales jumped 35 percent to $697 million. Sales of video game accessories, such as extra controllers have gone down by 8 percent to $120 million.
The strong rise in gaming market is backed by some popular titles for the Xbox 360 and Wii consoles. Overall, the video game market in the U.S. was worth $1.3 billion in October, up 18 percent from the same month last year.
Amid recession, these figures are welcome news for the gaming industry. The best-selling games in October were Microsoft’s “Fable II”’, Nintendo’s “Wii Fit,” “Fallout 3” for the Xbox 360, followed by “Mario Kart Wii” and “Wii Play.”
