Intel corp has decided to move in a big way into the embedded market and has launched eight products of its system-on-a-chip (SOC) device to cater to this segment.The company expects to expand the SOC series into fifteen products shortly. The products launched products belong to the EP80579 ranges and cater to the needs of security, communication and storage devices.The present SOC products is based on the Intel’s the Pentium M processor the company has said thet the future SOC generations will be built on the Atom processor thus making it more compact and less power consuming and at the same time more efficient. The individual SOC products consists of four identifiable componentand hence four chips such as memory and input/output controllers, CPU core and acceleration technology.The company has claimed that SOC chip is 45% smaller and 35% more energy efficient than similar products of this range offered by any other company.The company has designed the chip keeping in view the market concerning embedded and industrial computer systems, devices handling business security, Internet telephony, as well as for wireless connectivity such as 3G and WiMax. Elecronic majors such as Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent, NexCom have already said that their products will incorporate the Intel’s new product lineup.
