Intel slates release of Moblin second version
Added On:7/24/2008

The chip making giant and leading microprocessor manufacturer Intel has announced that it is to release the second version of Moblin.

Moblin is Intel’s open-source platform for mobile computing. It aims to develop open source software for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) by Intel. The plans have been unveiled at the O’Reilly Open Source Convention.

The underlying computing hardware is based on Atom processor which is designed for low cost mobile computing devices.

Earlier the company has announced its plans on the Moblin initiative last year. The products based on this initiative were speculated to hit shelves in the summer of 2008.

Last month only, at Computex Exhibition companies like Linpus, a leader in offering Linux solutions along with Xandros and Canonical have announced their products based on Moblin accounting the low power consumption and 25% battery boosts on Netbooks.

The company at the time of its launch has hoped that it will work as a point of integration for multiple sub projects.
