LG, the South Korean consumer electronics vendor and the no. 3 handset maker globally, is launching an online store for mobile phone applications. With its mobile app store, the company is initially focusing on Asia. The efforts are expected to expand pan world gradually. The market watchers compare this move to Apple app store and in urge to meet the same success. Meanwhile, Apple is celebrating its first anniversary of App store. With this, LG is next to ride the bus of vendors including RIM, Nokia, Ericsson and Sun that have announced app store on the leagues of Apple. The App stores are virtual stores that are used for downloading software and content. If LG is considered, despite of good growth in well-priced handsets, the company is lagging in the fast-growing Smartphone category.
The “LG Application Store” would provide 1,400 applications including 100 free programs, available in 15 languages. The service will first be offered in Asia-Pacific countries and will reach Europe and the South America by the end of this year, with a gradual increase in the applications. Meanwhile, the company has also announced the launch of their new product network monitors in the Indian market. LG Network monitor can connect multiple users to a single machine thus reducing the need for buying separate machines for everyone. The system supports up to 31 users to compute simultaneously.
