Last year, Microsoft Corp, the software giant had introduced its Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and until now, it has been reported that the company is working on two upcoming versions of the OS, namely Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and Windows Mobile 7.
However, according to latest reports, the company is planning to introduce a Windows Mobile 6.6 flavor in the next month.
According to channel insiders, the Redmond giant will launch Windows Mobile 6.6 (codenamed Maldives) in February 2010, which would compete with Google's Android and Apple's iPhone operating systems.
It is reported that the sales of WinMo 6.5 have been stagnant since its launch, which pushes the company to update its mobile platform with capacitive touchscreen’s support.
Further, the company also indicated that the Windows Mobile 7 version will be released by 2011.
Sources indicate that Pharos Traveler 137 will be the first device to have Windows Mobile 6.5.3 platform. It seems that Toshiba TG01, Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 or the HTC HD2 will also receive an update to the new software solution.
