Sony, the leader in consumer electronics is expected to unveil its first laptop supporting the all new technology, TransferJet.
The TranferJet is a short-range wireless system and is expected to eliminate the needs of cables for transferring the data between gadgets. However, the success of the technology would depend on its use in the products backed by the vendors. The technology has been under development for more than two years and can work upto distance of 3 centimeters. Its speed would overtake the speed of USB2.0.
The first products to support this technology are Sony's Vaio F laptop and TX7 and HX5V digital cameras that are expected to be made available globally by from February.
The technology when first unveiled in 2008 was expected to run at 560Mbps and actual transfer rates would be around 375Mbps. However, the latest digital cam launches are bit slower due to software overheads in data processing.
However, the company is refraining from making TransferJet as standard with devices as it would raise the price of the gadget and they would become less competitive.
Whether TransferJet achieves its goal of eliminating the cables would largely depend on the products from the vendors. The vendors that have promised to support TransferJet are Samsung, Toshiba, Kodak, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Pioneer and Sony Ericsson. Avinder/ITVOir Network |
