The social networking trend is picking up in India. This phenomenon
is not bounded in big cities and towns, small towns also contribute a lot into
it. Logging on to social networking sites and listing friends is an upcoming
advancement in small towns.
Indians liking of social network sites is clear by the daily
signing up of Indians in Orkut and facebook. Due to this tremendous hitting
rate India
is now among the biggest country of hitting people on social networking. This rapid
spread and penetration is mostly because of small town peoples.
Around 40% of users on Bigadda.com (an Indian social
networking site) are from small cities and towns like Surat, Guwahati, Nashik, Amritsar etc.
according to a calculation 48% of its users are from small towns only.
In recent years, India had shown a huge surge in
internet user’s number basically from non metro residents. The youth are main
audience or user of these networking sites. The new comers of 16-25 age groups
have increased importance of social networking in India. A survey conducted by
Bigadda.com showed that 79% of its users are singles and first timers who are
building their online networks and communities.
For many, the hopes of connecting with a loved one, an old
friend or acquaintance seem to be building only with social networking websites.
Before the invention of the internet, the ways of communicating with someone
were very few. Thankfully, that is no longer the case as people around the
globe conduct online networking socializing.
The social networking websites had made 240% growth in first
time visitors, may be because these sites give them space to be among friends
and peers, while projecting their image in a manner which they like.
The number one members on website hit 1 million marks in
just four months. the internet and mobile association of India show that the
number of internet users in the country has scored 4.9 million and in 2000, 46
million in 2007 only. The future is bright and growth oriented for social
networking on internet.
These figures are well predicting the future of social
networking in India.
Hopefully the increasing trend of talking and building community on internet
will contribute in its development and boosting up its economic condition also.
