Video games soon have to carry censor certificate:-

Now, soon you will get only censored video games along with rating whether it is for children’s or for adults.

The information and broadcasting ministry is considering making an amendment in Cinematograph Act, 1952. Through this amendment the censor Board get mandatory powers for checking the video games entering in the Indian market.

The censor board thereafter can ask video game manufacturer to remove the objectionable part from the game or can ban the whole video game, the same way as it ban movies.

The amendment is going to put after Censor Board received request applications from schools and social organisations, on the adverse effect of violent video games on children’s innocent mind.

The Indian video gaming industry, of Rs25 crore, shows mixed reaction on this amendment.  Some accepts the fact behind this action they believe that it is right because video games are really popular in India. When you play a video game you become a part of the game, if it is full of violence, gory images or erotica, it may effect directly to player mind.

Even a study by Michigan University had proved that violent content of video games are turning children more aggressive and affecting their mind development system. They are now interested in playing video games then outdoor activities which adversely affect their health.

Games like Killer 7, Dragon Blade, and Devil May are full of violent content; these are not only sold-purchased for interest but people are getting addictive of these games. US, Canada, Australia, Greece and Germany already had censorship laws for video games.

The present gaming industry worth around 25 crore and it will expand tremendously in 2008. In this situation having a censor board is good or not is a future concept, but the main question is whether it is going to affect its growth or not?
