Bharti Airtel joins five new telecom circles, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh (West), Assam, West Bengal, and Haryana. Experts say that this could give the company's expansion plans a major boost.

Bharti Airtel had applied for additional spectrum in ten circles out of which five have been approved. The remaining five circles which are in wait are Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu. As soon it get the DoT approval Airtel will start projects over there.

The DoT had awarding the company through a formal communication as the invitation for additional spectrum in the approved five circles. It is said by the authority that they will get the allotment for the remaining five circles in the next couple of months.

The DoT's additional spectrum allotment is based on new norms prescribed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India,  which states that the require existing operators has to increase their subscriber base by two to six times before they can be considered eligible for additional spectrum.

On the basis these norms, Bharti Airtel get eligible for an additional spectrum because it already has the required number of subscribers. The application for spectrum was filled by Bharti Airtel about two year back and since then their subscriber base has grown to the required level.
