Service Providers and Consumers Snap Up High Speed Wireless LAN
According to a recently published report from Dell’Oro Group, the trusted
source for market information about the networking and telecommunications
industries, Wireless LAN market sales will almost double during next five
years, surpassing $8 billion in 2012. One of the largest customer segments will
be Service Providers as they purchase broadband customer premises equipment
with integrated wireless LAN to enable their strategy of distributing IP video
services to households. The report addresses in detail the adoption of wireless
technology into the home and how it enables Service Providers to expand voice,
video and data services.
“Manufacturers are recognizing the importance of this new customer segment
and are dropping prices faster on new high bandwidth wireless LAN technology
products so that the price premium compared to the slower technology is low
enough to accelerate upgrades,” said Greg Collins, Vice President at Dell’Oro
Group. “We predict adoption of 802.11n products into the consumer market will
be big during 2008, despite the lack of a completed standard,” added Collins.
