Vitendo Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of products and technology for Fixed-Mobile Convergence, announced that it has released vFone 4.0, the industry's first UMA-based Softphone for PC applications. Unlicensed Mobile Access is a key component of the FMC strategy for cellular operators worldwide. UMA allows mobile operators to offer their services over the Internet using the broadband and WiFi infrastructure.

VFone 4.0 offers the familiar look and features of a cell phone, allowing users to make-and-receive calls and send-and-receive SMS from their laptops/desktops, while maintaining a unique identity on the network.

VFone 4.0 feature set includes:

Standard's compliant, comprehensive suite of GSM and IPSec protocols
Worldwide interoperability with existing UMA deployments
Patent-pending zero install architecture allows on-the-go deployments on USB flash drives and SIM card holders
High-quality voice engine provides toll grade voice quality

Sinkable user interface allows OEM's to customize the look and feel of vFone to match their branding needs.
